Evaluation of Grazing Options During Summer for Growing Heifers – Year 2
نویسندگان
چکیده
Developing methods to provide high quality forage through most of the year is important for cattle operations. The purpose this study was determine management options offset summer “slump” with fescue. Four grass pasture treatments (10 pastures total; 4 acres each) were used in a completely randomized design and stocked growing heifers (n = 49; initial wt 473 ± 60 lb). Pasture consisted novel fescue (FES), crabgrass (CRAB), bermudagrass (BERM), sorghum-sudan interseeded into (SS-FES). Heifers weighed grazed from April September (153 d). on FES continuously grazed. All other rotationally Sorghum-sudan May. Average daily gain (ADG) entire grazing period not different between systems. In contrast previous year, there no differences heifer gain, ADG, or per acre any treatments.

Levels of Supplementation for Grazing Beef Heifers
The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of providing different levels of a supplement on the nutritional characteristics and productive performance of heifers on pasture during the rainy-dry transition and dry season in Brazil or tropical area. Thirty crossbred heifers with predominance of Zebu breed were used in a completely randomized experimental design. Treatments consis...
متن کاملUndegradable intake protein supplementation of compensating spring-born steers and summer-born steers during summer grazing.
Three trials were conducted to determine the effects of previous winter gain (Trials 1 and 3) and age of calf (Trials 1 and 2) on response to undegradable intake protein (UIP) supplementation during summer grazing. In Trial 1, 48 spring-born steers (243 kg) were used in a 4 x 2 factorial arrangement. Steers were wintered at four rates of gain: 0.65 (FAST), 0.24 (SLOW), 0.38 (S/F), and 0.38 (F/S...
متن کاملDetermining suitable time for exploitation/ grazing of rangeland plants using growing degree days (GDD) model
One of the key principles in rangeland management is determination of suitable times for exploitation and grazing of rangeland plants in summer and winter pasturelands. This determination of time not only prevents degradation of plant species, but also leads to optimal usage of plant yield. Multiple factors affect plant phenology among which temperature regime has the highest effect on plant de...
متن کاملEarly Summer Drought Stress During the First Growing Year Stimulates Extra Shoot Growth in Oak Seedlings (Quercus petraea)
More severe summer droughts are predicted for mid-latitudes in Europe. To evaluate the impact on forest ecosystems and more specifically on forest regeneration, we studied the response to summer drought in oak seedlings (Quercus petraea). Acorns were collected from different mother trees in three stands in Belgium, sown in pots and grown in non-heated greenhouse conditions. We imposed drought o...
متن کاملMilk production of fall-calving dairy cows during summer grazing of grass or grass-clover pasture.
Milk production of fall-calving dairy cows during subsequent summer grazing was evaluated in two consecutive years using a total of 80 mid- to late-lactation Holsteins. Cows calved during September and October and grazed from April to August in the following year. In yr 1, 27 cows grazed a native grass pasture and 13 cows grazed a native grass-clover mixed pasture containing 26% red clover and ...
